In this course, students follow the instructional design model ADDIE as they are introduced to learning theories and instructional organization. They use Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate to produce two interactive learning objects.

This is a graduate instructional design course that I majorly revised over several years. The Learning Object projects are original to the course, and the learning objectives are largely original though I’ve added some and revised others.

Course Description

Provide students with necessary understanding of operating systems, hardware, and networking environments to develop instructional tools and products using a multimedia authoring tool.

Learning Goals

Upon completion of IDT 505, students will be able to:

  • Utilize instructional design systems to design online learning.
  • Select learning theories for a variety of audiences and learning environments.
  • Write measurable learning objectives and align instructional events.
  • Identify opportunities and constraints in a variety of learning environments.
  • Assess and construct original multimedia elements.
  • Investigate, differentiate, and manipulate the basic levels of an authoring environment.
  • Use hardware and software to combine basic animation, sound, and other multimedia properties within an authoring environment to create an original product.
  • Incorporate interactivity into an authoring environment.
